The Gorman String Quartet is a harmonization of what was originally a cello solo. This is definitely much more of a romantic piece than I usually compose, if not even a bit more self-indulgent. Working from a solo melody, the composition has a flow that rises and falls like breathing. When composing the original cello solo, I imagined myself drawing the bow across the strings and feeling the vibration of the wood on my body. It was a pleasant experience. This is a recording of the premiere performance by the Kleig Quartet at a New York Composers Circle concert in New York City in 2017.
