I reached back to my conservatory study of Fux's treatise on the rules of early 18th century species counterpoint and combined it with my fascination with Slonimsky's 20th century thesaurus of music scales. I composed most of this music while vacationing in a rainy Cancun in 2018. With not much else to do, I holed up at the Clipper Club and had fun blending two centuries and two pianos into three movements of music. The translation of the Latin titles is as follows: Servatis Tempore = Observing Time; Futurum Incertum Est = The Future Is Uncertain; Nebulosus Praeterita = The Past Is Cloudy; and Nunc Est Bibendum = Now Is The Time To Drink. This composition is dedicated to Geoffrey Burleson with appreciation for his friendship and advice about piano performance and notation.
